I am not aware of any way to check the status of that. A few things
though, to peruse or test.
First do assure that the CMNnn resource you have selected does NOT have
a Ethernet Line Description in IBM i that is varied ON. If there is,
that supersedes the Service Tools Adapter. This is the most common
failure by the way.
Next identify absolutely that you have a cable connected to the port in
question and that it links to the switch. Oddly enough, one way to test
that is to create an Ethernet Line Description in IBM i, assign an
address to it, see if the line goes active, and can you ping and and out
of that address.
Another thing you can do is in the 'node name' in Servcice tools, enter
a unique mac address. Note that it should be a locally administered
address so start with 06 for example thus setting the locally
administered address bit to 1. (This bit is the seventh bit in the first
octet counting from the left, or the '2' position in hex) With this
assigned look in the mac address table of the switch to see if the
address appears at all.
