Buck

I've struggled some with content assist, with the apparent need for syntax to be valid somehow - maybe up to the cursor, and I've quite worked out the dance to make it work always.

I just tried <cursor>CREATE <F4> and got the same list as when I just press <F4> in an "empty" part of the editor. That's a small list, and seems to be statements the can be handled with content assist, as I'd mentioned in my last post.

I think it'd be useful to have the corresponding Schema "new object" window pop up when we enter a simple CREATE <WHATEVER> <F4>. I have some vague Idea that it used to do that - it'd be a nice shortcut, but since it's so easy to get to the Schema tool, maybe not worth the time for IBM to devote to that.

Still, I just might submit that Idea.

Cheers
Vern

I think I found a very useful alternative in the Schema tool - it is
available in the Tools menu of RSS. Open it to the list of libraries
(schemas), then right-click on a schema name and click on the New item -
you'll see all the kinds of SQL objects you can create, including tables
- for each object type there is a window with tabs for the several
clauses of each kind of CREATE. Those tabs are similar, to my thinking,
to the steps you use in STRSQL.

Thanks for this Vern. I continue to treat Run SQL Scripts as a command
line. Need to move my brain forward.

Now back to Content Assist - there are some kinds of statements that
lend themselves more easily to this tooling.

I've found that content assist is cursor sensitive.
CREATE <cursor> <F4> gives me a different list than
<cursor> CREATE <F4>
