I recommend using VALUES INTO - such as this, assuming testvalue is created - used this -
create variable testvalue char(10);
The SELECT statement has to return a single row
values (select min(state) from qiws/qcustcdt) into testvalue;
That worked - what SQLCOD or SQLSTATE are you getting? Or what SQLxxxx message is in your job log?
