Well, so I googled for "ibm net.data" - and lo and beheld, there's a support for it on IBM i - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/netdata-ibm-i - there are links to documentation, the reference manual and administration & programming manual for OS/400 V5 from 2001

I'm not sure how much real support there is, but it is part of DG1, so... There was a time when there was Net.Data support from someone at IBM in an IBM-wide support for it, not directly IBM i.

Likewise, you could ue something like a USRSPC to store image data in a

library... but it would've been awkward to administer, because in order to
add/replace pictures on your site, you'd need someone with the technical
know-how to convert those pictures into user spaces, et al.

Yeah, that sounds doable, yet pretty much out of question.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't assuming a common need. Just passed on word
of mouth (aka, mail in this case) and trying to to get more input.

People hosting HTTP servers weren't as commonplace, the TCP/IP support

was limited, support for things like stream files was somewhat limited,
etc. It just didn't happen.

Well, did *not* or did *rarely* happen? :-) In any case, I see there were
quite some obstacles. I'm currently reading again through the "Cool Title
About the AS/400 and Internet", moaning about Gopher software for OS/400
probably being lost forever, and getting new overall insights: I've learned
quite a lot about the platform since reading through it the first time some
years ago.
