Thanks for the responses! It was more than I was expecting.

I am intrigued by the "as far as DSPS36 and CHGS36... I have published
solutions for topics that do not have a proper IBM i (SQL) Service". I
took a quick look at the link you provided (which I had already
bookmarked previously) and could not find anything S/36-related. So
I'm wondering if I just missed it, or if it's published elsewhere.

In any event, DSPS36 fortunately does have an OUTPUT(*PRINT) option,
so that's relatively easy to scrape. As for programmatically changing
settings, I'd have to see if those "published solutions" have anything
applicable. Left to my own devices, I'd probably resort to writing
fancy macros for the ACS 5250 emulator session. (It remains to be seen
whether *any* automation of CHGS36 is worth it, given how infrequently
I imagine (and hope!) this kind of thing is needed.)

So it's going to take some sort of API. I would be the only way to get
this via SQL is to roll your own (providing you can even find the API) or
see if Bob Cozzi has one. I know a few people who would pull their hair
out if IBM created new sql services for S/36 environment.
If you cannot find an API you could try job tracing, etc to see what calls
happen while you are in there.
Or you could open a case and see if there are any APIs.
