Yes you can create your own start up program, and you should!

That said, 1) DO NOT use a Q in the first position, DO NOT call it QSTRUP, and DO NOT put it in QSYS. If you insist on using an IBM supplied library then use QGPL or QUSRSYS,

Better yet, create a library called OVRSYS (or anything really) and put it at the top of the system library list. Then put all of the work management and other important things in that library, for instance, did you change QPRINT print file, then put the changed one in that library and do not overwrite the IBM supplied one. Same rule goes for subsystem descriptions, classes, routing programs etc.

Now when it comes time to do OS upgrades or IBM decides to change something you've updated, your changes will not get wiped out. Print files are on the top of that list. Those of us that do what I do make quite a bit of money fixing stuff that should not have been broken in the first place, and would not be if you follow a couple of simple rules.....

Subject RE: QSTRUP user

What controls the user profile under which QSTRUP runs? Is it hard-coded to QPGMR? Or can it be changed?

You can always create the clprogram QSTRUP under QSECOFR and CHGPGM to USRPRF(*OWNER).

Best regards

Stefan
