I know you haven't been able to add drives to an existing raid set since at least 7.1 on Power 8.
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.1?topic=protection-including-disk-units-in-parity-set

So I need to know if my system has the stones to start a new raid set. And how many drives can I add. How do I find that out?

I'd just as soon chuck this out and get a pair of Power 10's and a SAN but I may have to postpone that decision depending on how the end of year capital budget is doing. We do occasionally get a "spend it or lose it" directive. Which often ends up in stocking up on new laptops for the next year.
Pair? I have a P8 I'd like to get rid of as:
1 - It won't run 7.5.
2 - It hits end of maintenance next year.
Totally absurd to have a test machine incapable of testing out new versions of the OS.
