Most likely a setting... the main thing I see is people don't set up SMTP
on the IBM i properly to use their mail router. In that case, the email is
delivered directly to the recipient. They just test and if it "works" then
they're happy. Then they find out later it doesn't work for everyone.

As mentioned, it works for some (maybe hotmail) but not all. That's
because when you connect from your IBM i directly to your recipient's mail
server it will do a reverse DNS lookup and if it doesn't find anything, it
won't deliver.

You should deliver mail from IBM i ---> your mail router ----> recipient.

Check CHGSMTPA to make sure settings are good there.

Has anyone run into this issue? Sending email using SNDSMTPEMM to a
Gmail account fails to arrive. Is there a Google setting that can be
changed to allow this?

This topic seems to arise regularly in this group. Google has good
documentation what they expect from senders to assure delivery.

"It doesn't work" is not a helpful description, btw. Usually, there are
log entries with the status which is always being sent back by the
receiving SMTP node to the sending SMTP node. Find out about that status.
Failure can have many reasons. Too many to poke in the dark space of known
unknowns. In addition: Did this ever work? Or is this a new issue? Does it
fail for just one Gmail account, or in general?

I'm always astonished how long standing programmers still throw a "doesn't
work, please help" into here, with no helpful information. If any user
would approach a programmer with such an error description, you'll send him
away in a mildly annoyed way to collect more details. Would you?
