From my experience, DDM user check works different on TCP/IP compared to SNA. And it works over a gap of multiple OS releases with SNA.
In SNA, it's most easy: It just works out of the box and uses QUSER by default. I did not yet manage to get it to run over TCP/IP yet — but this might be because I tried to access 7.2 from V4R5 and vice versa. (Fortunately, I had established a reliable protocol conversion from SNA over Ethernet, 802.2 DLC to EE almost a year ago, so both machines can talk SNA to each other now.)
