To expand a bit on something we do - we have geodata for the customer locations where we provide service. There is a need to get this added or changed as needed, and we have a process where the GIS team sends an email to one of our accounts, with an attached XLSX file that contains the geodata. Using Brad Stone's G4MS tooling, we read the email, with Scott's POI service program we read the XLSX, doing appropriate validity checking, then use valid data (so far as we can validate) to update the geodata in a production table.

I think you are describing what I think is OK. I'm leary of someone using Excel as the maintenance application for a production table.

Vern,

What if it is the intermediary table?
Imagine this example,
IBMi generates a intermediary table with item number, old inventory quantity and new inventory quantity.
Person pulls it up in excel, enters in the new inventory quantity and saves it.
IBMi application verifies the intermediary table for reasonableness and posts it.

I'm probably guilty of this myself. Trying to think of why the OP wants to do something too much instead of just helping them do it and figure they could do their own damage control.
Maybe they lock down their other tables and only allow direct access on this table.

Sure, they could upload/download from stream files and post the intermediary from there but they were just asking if they could do it directly with Excel and it's not an unreasonable request.
