RE: IBM i Windows network name -- MIDRANGE-L

It's fixed

- we added an entry for the IBMSERVER in DNS server
- on the application PC that was failing connection, we deleted old net shares (using net use from PC command line)
--- I'm guessing that was using cached info
- made sure that we had the same user profile on the IBM that was being used to login to the PC, and that passwords matched
- using Windows file explorer, opened up \\IBMSERVER\folder - worked.

Spent about 2 hours on the phone with IBM tech getting that figured out.

1 - Your pc administrators get confused over where the host table should be based on various flavors of Windows.
2 - That WINS thingy previously mentioned.

Do you have an old WINS server running someplace with an entry for the old machine?

Originally, Windows Networking used WINS by default, rather than DNS.

Well, that's probably why you always find the old system. You
probably have a host table entry on your PC which points QIBMSERVER to
the old system. I despise host table entries.

Ok group, I'm so close to having the new IBM i up and going... one
more thing to get working.

Whenever I open a Windows File Explorer and try to go to
\\QIBMSERVER<file://QIBMSERVER>, I'm shown the files/folders on our
old box, should be the new.

I've changed IP addresses on both systems, and changed the system name
on both boxes with chgneta (old one is now OLD400, new is now
IBMSERVER) and re-IPLed both systems. I can see that both are renamed
in dspneta. If I ping old400, it returns the IP of the old box. If I
ping QIBMSERVER, returns the IP address of the old box (should be the
new). If I ping IBMSERVER, cannot find host.

I've gone thru the CFGTCP options, they appear to match up on both boxes.

What else should I be checking / changing?
