:) That was not exactly my point, right? Modernization is not necessarily just having a web-based VSCode-like editor for the traditional IBM i languages. You would yourself say, I think, that IBM are not providing their own package management tool, they are going to what is widely accepted in the open source community - yum - you even mentioned yum in or around these threads.

I ask a related question - and considering the directions I see from IBM - is there an ssh connection out of Merlin? I didn't get to ask that when it was presented to us in the CAAC meeting recently. It would seem reasonable that it will.

It will be interesting to see the reach of this new tooling. Exciting times on the i front!!

Regards
Vern

Agreed - I do wonder about development in languages other than
RPG/COBOL/CL - I didn't see, yet, anything about a Python editor,
for example - we shall see, right? It is a work-in-progress, and I
like where it is going.

Nobody on the entire planet wants IBM to provide a Python editor :)

Spyder IDE <https://www.spyder-ide.org/> is my choice. I just mount the IFS locally via SSHFS <https://github.com/libfuse/sshfs> and code merrily away. Most of the rest of the Python world is using VSCode.
