No need for the *But* - of course IBM want to make money - I believe it is clearly understood that what we do on advisory councils is partly (or maybe completely) to help IBM sell machines (or whatever serves as a machine, I don't want to get into picky details of semantics). IBM finds it to their benefit to have their employees spend time with the advisory councils, and IBM do not send people to conferences just to give them a vacation trip. It's like any other vendor - they all need to make a profit in order to keep providing what people use.

Oy!! Far too many words for what should be obvious!

People in this community are generally very passionate about the IBM i and its predecessors, and IBM does respond with passion, as well.
Point taken. Also, I'd not be "here" without that passion. :-)

*But*: I'm 100% sure IBM will only respond with passion as long as they can make enough money from it.

IBM tries to attract fresh blood to the mainframe platform through "Master the Mainframe", maybe there's more. I assert this is also some kind of passion. :-) I feel, there's much more "give us your money" involved with IBM's passion towards IBM i than mainframes. But then, this is maybe my hobbyist view on affairs?
