Perhaps SourceTree, Tortoise or another git client perhaps ?

In the 1990's I resisted IDEs as long as possible. My IDE was (and to a
great extent still is) macros tied to function keys in Midnight Commander.
<https://midnight-commander.org/>

By 1997 I had become a user of (what became) NetBeans. I also use Eclipse
and Atom.

In any case, there have always been, with each of them, anomalies w/r/t
source control mechanisms ... CVS, SubVersion, Mercurial, Git ...

There's nothing quite as satisfying in this regard as mastering the source
control mechanism at the command line level and handling it there as soon
as the IDE starts throwing conniption fits.

Here's a free book on Git <https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2>.
