Not meaning this as an insult, only as an explanation.
James is unlikely to use a service if he can find an API to do it instead. Granted, the development time to use an API is MUCH longer. However James develops for older versions of the operating system and the APIs handle that better as many of the services require something currently supported.
Also I suspect he may not have the SQL development tools as he has a competing product to STRSQL and therefore may want to avoid the expense of the precompilers.
