I use

call systools.LPRINTF ('Hello');

and you can see if it is on you system, simply run this query:

Select * from QSYS2.SERVICES_INFO
where service_name = 'LPRINTF';

Before LPRINTF came I wrote my own JOBLOG that did exactly the same.

you can install this feature JOBLOG from my gist:

There is meanwhile an easier way to write messages into the joblog, by
using the LPRINTF stored procedure in the SYSTOOLS library.

Matt,

Where do you want those messages to appear? In the job log? See:

DB2 LUW has this so you can put in debug output statements in a stored
procedure:

SQL Server has "Print" commands where you can output messages in a stored
procedure.

Where is the printing capability in the IBMi for stored procedures so I
can output some result information as the procedure is looping through the
data?
