We ended up killing the job entirely after we looked at what was left - in case we need to manually run those programs - as they created a number of different reports

Here is my question - is there ANY way of ending the present program
- but continue with the remainder of the CLP program?

Only if the program that's waiting can end it's wait and return to the
calling program.

Maybe have the called program wait for a shorter period of time, say 1
minute, check for a flag to indicate if it should continue or not, and
return if not. Otherwise go back and wait again.

If you need the called program to continue to wait, while the caller
resumes, consider submitting the called program to another job queue
(QSYSNOMAX?).
