Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: Using field text instead of field names within SQL

Hi Alan

Basically the answer is no - SQL knows nothing about text or column headings, generally.

Run SQL Statements in ACS does give you the option, but it has had to pull in that "metadata" in order to present it.

The bare SELECT statement can't do it that I know of.

Some 3rd party products or community-provided utilities, such as SQL2JXL, might have a parameter to let you choose what to use - again, they have to pull that info separately.

Cheers
Vern

Subject: Using field text instead of field names within SQL

Hi everyone
We are on V7r3
My mind is not working at the moment, and google search is not giving me any results
When I run the following SQL query
Select * from libname/filename
The results have the field names as the column names
Is it possible to extract the field text instead of the field names as the column names?
Hope that makes sense
As always - all replies gratefully accepted
