retrofit existing applications means I won't get it done for this project.
But I can look to implement it on a proof of concept and then maybe I can

... the amount of work depends on application design. If the rpg/java part
is encapsulated in a module of its own and not spreaded around the whole
application it could be realistic to switch implementation.
The benefit is not only performance, scalability and full controll of
environment, you could use standard java logging for debug and error
tracking during development and production too.
