Not to mention, smartphones in particular have quite a lot of pixels
available crammed into a very small space, and human fingers are only
so small. If anything, leaving extra wasted space within touch zones
helps the "mature" users (with less than perfect eyesight and perhaps
less than surgical dexterity of the fingers) even more than it helps
the youngsters.

I'm not saying that IBM's design is necessarily good on smartphones. I
haven't even looked at it. Just riffing on Jack's general observation.
