The anti-terminal skeptics here appear to be forgetting something:

High-end terminals (i.e., InfoWindow II or knockoff) and well-designed emulators can do GUI-like constructs, and respond to a mouse. And if the terminal or emulator has Simple Hotspots enabled, it can respond to a mouse even if there's no mouse-specific code in the DDS.
