If you have a way of connecting the drives to a PC, and getting it to
even recognize them as physical drives, then you could use DBAN
("Darik's Boot and Nuke").
As it happens, we have a small carton of drives from decommissioned
Midrange boxes. We've been able to reuse a very few of them, but mostly
they just sit, on "death row," as it were.
