One reply was for security by obscurity. Basically they were discouraging using NetServer shares. And encouraging alternative methods of sharing.
IDK if this assumes that any of these ransomware attacks only use netserver shares and do not look for mounts, etc. Or if it assumes that all ransomware attacks comes from only Windows machines and not Linux and other clients.
