AFAIK Ubuntu didn't really pan out for POWER, they haven't updated the
tools for the last couple of releases so it makes sense to say
"unsupported". I would still try to run something supported since otherwise
you lose the power tools that give you DLPAR and the like. But any ppc64el
distro should boot even in PowerVM mode.

(„Not supported“ does not necessarily mean „does not work“. I think for a
playground this is okay to be ignored.)
