there is not much use of an internal USB DVD drive - once for installing. So i assume IBM
decided the user an use any external DVD drive and save the space for the big backplanes.

An RDX drive and an LTO drive both use SAS and the same type of bay. You just really don’t have a lot of space left anymore in a 2U case, so I pretty much second Holger.

You could fit a slimline DVD in one of those, but that might not be worth the effort. USB or network based installations are so much easier/faster so you might be better off using that real estate for NVMe storage or increased airflow
