Pray tell, what does iDate not support that I need to add?

You've got correct answers in that you need a real date, and given a
couple ways to get to one. You may want to consider keeping a date
conversion table around. It can be very handy when you have to convert a
lot of rows.

I'm partial to a date file/table myself. It saves a lot of mucking
around with strings and formatting. As Cobb says in the PDF, you can
include esoteric things in there as well if you like. As great as
iDate is, there are some things it doesn't handle. (I guess you could
argue that's a case for enhancing iDate, rather than keeping around a
file.)
