There are just some weird stuff with QNTC which may cause sporadic errors.
For example let's say the target has these shares
Acctshare
Mfgshare
Ilikebigsharesandforthisicannotlie
Now, let's say you are only accessing acctshare and neither of the others. Simply the existence of that last share with the big long name can cause sporadic errors. It is documented. There have been patches to the latest versions of the OS to overcome this. Before that we were doing stuff like spinning up new targets just to stop that one clown from creating big share names on our target. Most of them made no sense. Basically they were foreign language for
Thisistheshareforaccounting
Thisistheshareformanufacturing
But I digress...

<snip>
Ensure that all Windows based shares are 12 characters or less in length. OS400 v740 and later allows access to share names of up to 255 characters in length.

I'm having a tough time finding documentation about the simple existence of the longer share name so you can either do your own research or just trust me on this.

Ps: Who but IBM can get away with saying "OS400 v740"?
