Doctor, doctor - it hurts when I bang my head into the wall <grin>

Surely the answer is to not have the credentials in the source but rather retrieve them programmatically from a table/data area/whatever. That way security controls can be applied to the object holding the key data.

The source for the programs that *access* the web services is on the *customer* box. The only way to avoid that would be to duplicate a compilation environment for those programs on one of our boxes. So anybody able to inspect that source would be able, one way or another, to either see the credentials, or see where they come from.
