The help I was talking about was in Run SQL Scripts from ACS, but the RUNSQLSTM command got it added in 6.1. This is the closest to an announcement that I could find.

Thanks Kevin
I definitely did not know about that
I cannot tell you how many times I have created an SQL script, wishing
there was a way to call CL from within the SQL script
I learnt something new today.
Todays a good day
But then its very rare I DON’T learn something new from this e-mail group

Subject: Re: [EXTERNAL] what would the correct option be to use DSPJRN
It's been there for as long as I can remember. Not much documentation, but
there is not much to it. If you click on Help - Help Contents, it has this
blurb.
Control Language (CL) commands can be executed by placing CL: at the
beginning of a statement. You can use any CL command that can be submitted
from a batch job.
Example: CL:ADDRPYLE SEQNBR(3333) MSGID(CPA32B2) RPY(I);

Hi Darryl
Unfortunately - I don't have an answer to your predicament
HOWEVER
Looking at your SQL, I saw the following 2 commands
CL:DSPJRN JRN(#LCNSOXJRN/LCNSOXJRN) FILE((OEFILES/OEHDRP)) FROMTIME(081120
000000) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFILFMT(*TYPE3) OUTFILE(QTEMP/JRN_WORK1)
ENTDTALEN(*CALC) NULLINDLEN(*CALC)
;
And
CL: cpyf QTEMP/JRN_WORK1 QTEMP/JRN_WORK2 mbropt(*replace) fmtopt(*NOCHK) ;
Looks like you can run CL commands from SQL!!!!!!!!
When did this happen?
Obviously, I missed something
Is there any documentation on this?

Subject: [EXTERNAL] what would the correct option be to use DSPJRN
I have had a procedure that I have used for the past 10 years plus. It is
no longer working as before. Essentially I have to retrieve data from the
journals to see how data is changing in the file.
It seems IBM changed something in the output of the DSPJRN command and my
procedure now fails. I have tried several options, unsuccessfully.
The failure is a CPF5035 and CPF2973 = Data truncated to 820 characters.
The truncation is my problem.
Can anyone assist with how to use the command?
Here is the SQL code. I also tested it at the native command prompt.
---------------
drop table QTEMP.JRN_WORK1;
drop table QTEMP.JRN_WORK2;
;
CL:DSPJRN JRN(#LCNSOXJRN/LCNSOXJRN) FILE((OEFILES/OEHDRP)) FROMTIME(081120
000000) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFILFMT(*TYPE3) OUTFILE(QTEMP/JRN_WORK1)
ENTDTALEN(*CALC) NULLINDLEN(*CALC)
;
-- Select JOESD from QTEMP.JRN_WORK1;
create table QTEMP.JRN_WORK2 as
(select a1.joentl, a1.joseqn, a1.jocode, a1.joentt, a1.jotstp, a1.jojob,
a1.jouser, a1.jonbr, a1.jopgm, a1.joobj, a1.jolib, a1.jombr, a1.joctrr,
a1.joflag, a1.joccid, a1.jouspf, a1.josynm, a1.joincdat, a1.jominesd,
a1.jores, a1.jonvi,
a2.*
from QTEMP.JRN_WORK1 a1 , OEFILES.OEHDRP a2 )
with NO data;
-- Select * from QTEMP.JRN_WORK2;
CL: cpyf QTEMP/JRN_WORK1 QTEMP/JRN_WORK2 mbropt(*replace) fmtopt(*NOCHK) ;
;
---------------
TIA
