Before anyone gets the wrong idea - IBM IS NOT ELIMINATING THE SUPPORT OF
AFP PRINTING!

73

They are only eliminating support of the AFP Utilities package 5770-AF1 -
which you never ever needed for AFP printing.

There are lots of tools on the market, many mentioned in this thread - and
many very much rely on IBM continuing to support overlays and page segments,
etc.

When IBM sees the market is full of tools for this, why would they spend $$
to compete for small utility packages?

Jim Franz - still using all these resources in V7R2, V7R3 and V7R4

Subject: Printing Packages to Use in Place of Phased Out AFP Printing for
Overlays

We are on an iSeries at OS 7.2 and process direct to customer orders for a
number of different retail customers. Most of them require that we include
Branded Packing Slips in the shipments that include their logo and very
specific formatting. We have been using AFP overlays to accomplish this and
haven't been thrilled with the process involved. Now with the elimination of
support for AFP printing, we are looking to see if there are any IBM or 3rd
party packages that can do this, hopefully in a more efficient manner.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Conan
