Rob

No not going to power 7, the problem with Lan mode Qconsole is the extra
password on screen, Any how I will go into service tools and look and my
settings and IPL the machine. Company has basically abandoning the platform
for Microsoft Dynamics. I am just supporting a few application they could
not convert. I just need to back up profiles and such. Last year we
crashed 2 drives at the same time an the restore sucked.

I'll tell you how in a bit but first...
If you plan on upgrading to a Power 7 or newer your only choices are Lan
Console or HMC.
If you plan on upgrading to IBM i 7.3 or newer your only choices are Lan
Console or HMC. This is because 7.3 is only supported on Power 7's or
above.
Knowing how to install and use Lan Console is a marketable skill. If so,
I would not use the deprecated Client Access for Windows but instead use
the newer IBM i Access Client Solutions.

Ok, now on how to change your console type...

Doing V5r4 somehow console get in Lan mode, we don't have that. Is that a

One other thing...
Lan Console or HMC is a lot easier to get to remotely than twinax, like if
you're working from home during a pandemic or some such thing.
