Rob is completely right about testing - the optimizer does consider the environment when it decides how to process the request. Available memory and CPU are certainly looked at.

But if the question is one of authority to a logical, the STRDBG test (or VE) might tell you that the LF was not even looked at.

BTW, look into a QAQQINI setting that says to look at ALL indexes when optimizing - I think it's there.
