Thanks Jack but the certificate extraction method you walked me through earlier, is that not a level of security authentication?

That's a whole subject in itself, almost a specialty, you might say.
Sometimes the language you are coding in makes a difference to your choice.
You should read up on authorization.
A lot of people use OAuth https://oauth.net/
