IBM i tape library virtualization

IBM i now supports sharing the TS2900 (3572), TS3100/3200 (3573), and TS4300 (3555) tape library devices between multiple IBM i partitions without requiring multiple adapters, a SAN switch, or a VIOS partition. This support is for both a SAS-attached tape library device and a Fibre Channel-attached tape library device, and the server and client partitions can be running any combination of IBM i 7.2, IBM i 7.3, or IBM i 7.4.

This enhancement may be especially beneficial to clients who currently use manual operations to share tape library devices among IBM i client partitions with a single IBM i partition owning the tape library device, with the tape library device dedicated to a single IBM i partition, and who need to manually Vary Off, DLPAR, and then Vary On the device in the desired partition.

This is great news.

Thank You
