-Java is not much of an issue these days. Not a drawback in my opinion.
-Personally I don't usually use or recommend FTP to transfer files to/from QSYS.LIB. I move the data to the IFS first or vice-versa then process.
-This addresses the original posters question of more secure FTP since you can lock to specific folder.
