> I did and I'm still staying to "I consider the I/O Handling of IBM i in a secondary LPAR as a bug." Adding multiple controllers and virtual disks because of lack of I/O Queue depth and maybe more issues means a lot of unnecessary complexity to the admin and also a lot of wasted CPU/IOP cycles because data is being double-handled.

I disagree. It is not 'A Bug' it is a design point that has been in there since 1988 and most likely from the S/38 before that. IBM i can support, as I recall, 2047 disk units. I have personally worked with LPARs that had well over 500 disk units.

In discussions with various IBMers over the years changing IBM i underlying disk I/O code to support a single disk unit of ginourmous size would be a very significant undertaking. What's the value of that other than to a very small group, us IBM i admins??

MANY times in discussions of enhancements for administration of disks etc I have been told by IBM: "But Larry, you KNOW how to do it now. We do want to make things easier but it makes no business sense to put a lot of effort and funding into making YOUR job easier. Rather we are applying that effort toward new function that keeps our operating system the most functional in the world." (Such little things like Db2 Mirror for example.)

For the record, I'm good with that.

It's most likely NOT a bug with IBM i . Re-read Larry's response, then read it again.

As Larry pointed out: at least six disk units (virtual or real), all the
same size, then "add and balance", "add and balance"........

Now go read Larry's note again.

Jim, I can read myself. You don't need to push me like that. I was in error and I admitted it. What else, now?
