We've been doing VIOS hosted Ethernet. One VIOS lpar hosts one Ethernet
port, the other VIOS lpar hosts the other. Each lpar of IBM i is
aggregated off of both lpars of VIOS. I've done midday upgrades of VIOS
without disturbing communications. Just have to alternate the upgrades.

Hi Larry, any problem doing this with P9 and Cisco Switch?
We configured 3 ports to group and setup the Cisco Switch accordingly but
we experience random disconnection on 5250 sessions and RDI.
To be clear, the P9 is remote so we connect to remote workstations via RDP
(RDP session don't get disconnected).
It's not a big problem since I can reconnect 5250 and RDI, but the Debug
listener in RDI just fades away without message so when you think it should
stops it doesn't.
TIA

This DOES require configuration of the switch AND IBM i in a
coordinated manner.
You can aggregate from 2 to 8 ports into a single Ethernet line though
we rarely see more than 2 or 3. Once configured the aggregated line is
used like any other Ethernet line.
