We have never had an issue with freezing here in ...

where it is RARELY in the teens, and then for just a few hours.

I only mention the regulators freezing as we have an outdoor grill piped
into NG as well. For 5 years it worked great all winter. Last winter it
wouldn't work because of a frozen regulator (once it was above freezing it
worked fine). I haven't tried this year yet. And we are getting a nice
cold snap after the latest "blizzard".

Our generator now powers our septic lifts as well, so we're good to go for
as long as we get NG... after that I'll need to start using wood for heat.
:) I like to go out and chop wood when it's about 15-20 F... good
exercise.

Another reason to consider a whole facility generator for country based

No power to the well = no flush the toilets. And, if you're like Brad and
have those septic tank mounds you need a septic tank pump to pump the
effluent to the drain field on the top of the mounds.

We've tested ours and it's 2-3 seconds max. The only thing I don't trust
about NG is the regulator freezing. The UPS can keep our IBM i up and
running while the Generator fires up no problem. And it normally takes
about 30 minutes to get the ISP to put a generator on our DSL hub for
internet connection anyhow.

Nice to have for the home and business. In my case, it's both. :)

But I also enjoy getting our wood stove going for heat in those cases.
Last year before our generator was installed we had a couple neighborhood
families here cooking on it since power was out for a few days.. only 2
rules.. BYOB and if it's yellow, let it mellow... power was out on the
septic pumps too...haha. We were melting snow on the stove to flush
toilets... fun stuff!

We run lasers on UPSs. They just need to be big enough. I think we use

Generators are a pain, especially for a small application like that, and
you
STILL need something to cover the startup time of the genny. We have a
48Kw
here and it takes 12-16 seconds to start. The UPS keep everything up in
the
meantime.

All,

Our IBM i is in the cloud, so the UPS we have is now way oversized.
Liebert Nfinity installed in 2004. It's had batteries replaced, etc and
served us well during the 2-hour power outage yesterday. But seriously,
we
don't need 180 minutes run time. :) I have a quote for a replacement.

I got to thinking about something yesterday. Even without power, if we
had
a way for our laser printer(s) to work, we could have continued on our
merry way, though somewhat in the dark.

Laser printers should not/cannot be placed on a UPS due to power draw.
What about a portable generator? With the assurance that we have clean
power coming out of it. We wouldn't need EVERY laser printer running,
just
one of them.

Anybody ever do this?

Thanks.
