Subject: Re: HMC Partition sort order

One of the issues I see is the deployments are so different. Sure guys
like my friend the 'Iron Monger' deploy a lot of IBM i, and heck I have
99 IBM i partitions at the moment, the VAST majority of IBM i shops have
partition counts that don't exceed one hand.

Those AIX guys though sometimes deploy partitions in three digits and
more. Clearly the issues with that type of deployment are well different
than the small i shop.

One example. Those 1000 partitions the AIX guys deploy? Likely the same
version and TL level, same disk, memory, cpu, same network VLAN etc for
every single one. Or at least in large groups. Of my 99 IBM i
partitions over 60 different VLANs. Seven different O/S levels and
probably 20 different TR levels. Many different CPU and memory
allocations and the only ones with the same disk are those at the
minimum deployment. And they were deployed over years not as a large
group. We also seem to restart things much less frequently than our AIX
brethren and our partitions live longer, often 'forever'.

IBM i is used differently by most shops than is AIX, quite differently.
And that is reflected in development work on the HMC.

Let's create some RFE for this, the HMC interface is currently my
beloved battlefield.

I too would like the customization we do to the interface to be persistent
by user profile. We used to have something near that with the customized
interface but that all went away with the new design.

I also prefer Partition ID number ordering.

I am not holding my breath that any design changes for the HMC will come
through that someone outside of the AIX environment might like. The
designers and developers all believe IBM i dead, and wish it would go away.
