I remember when it first came out. I also remember the "fun" involved when we used it for setting up the labs at COMMON conferences. Y'all were still wet behind the ears back then. 😊

What is this thing "Token-Ring" ??? Hmmm. :-)

IF I recall correctly and I think Bryan already mentioned this the 4/16Mb Adapter am not valid in model 800, and the 2944 16/100Mb Adapter is required.

Merry Christmas!

Hello,

recently I added a 2724 Token Ring IOA into an 800 running V5R2 but it is shown as "failed" in DST/SST. Hardware service manager reveals that the internal selftest failed.

I replaced the adapter with another one, same outcome.

I placed the adapter from Slot C03 to C05 to have it being controlled by the internal CFIOP instead of the add-on 2844, same outcome.

The CFIOP serves a 2793 modem/serial card, a 2746 eight port twinax controller and a 2757 storage IOA.

The 2844 serves just a 2849 Fast Ethernet IOA.

From the PCI placement rules Guide from IBM, I can't see any statement for 2724 being supported in the 800 but a 2744 100M Token Ring IOA. There is also no implicit "2724 not supported in 800".

Can anyone confirm that the 2724 indeed doesn't run in an 800?

Thanks!
