ok, yes some are and some arent'... i do remember changing the sysval to 37
at one point...
but because some files were created with ccsid other than 37, i always
specify 37 when i can...

so i just created a small table with decimal (packed) field... i used the
same cpytoimpf that you used and it worked fine.
that same cpytoimpf is not working on the original file (this file is
created from old processes with i-specs and such)...

i'm going to have to investigate the data in the file itself.

thanks again

Just as an FYI. Our QCCSID is 37, and the file and field are both 37 also.
Because you are having to put the 37 on from ccsid, I suspect some of yours
are not. But as I recall from before we switched everything, the from ccsid
is supposed to fix that.

cpytoimpf is not working... nor did it work before when we tried it...

using parms

mbropt(*replace)
fromccsid(37) - if we don't, the result looks EBCDIC? symbols - no
clear text
stmfcodpag(*pcascii)
rcddlm(*cr) - required with dtafmt(*fixed)
dtafmt(*fixed)

any suggestions on what is missing?

thats funny - i actually started with your suggestion but was not
achieving the correct formatted stmf result.(probably didn't have
the cpytoimpf parms just right).
Consulted with a couple of vets at my company and they suggested the
cpyf method.

got it - i guess i'll need to play with the correct parms in
cpytoimpf to achieve this correctly.

thanks John

So what is the solution to do a cpyf to a flat text to be sure

are going to be clear text in the flat text file?

The solution is to not use CPYF at all. The whole point of
CPYTOIMPF is to copy data from a PF into either a flat file or
stream file. In this case, you would go straight to stream file.
