Re: parse a negative number out of a before image string

If you like SQL UDF you can try something like this:

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION faq400.f4String2dec (
i_string varchar(30),
i_ndecimal integer
)
RETURNS decimal(21, 6)
LANGUAGE SQL
BEGIN
declare returnval decimal(21, 6);
declare divisionby integer;

This is a test with some different numbers in string

with sampledata as
(select '002632J' as String1,
'1234R' as String2,
'123' as String3
from sysibm.sysdummy1)
select faq400.f4String2dec(String1, 2) as Val1,
faq400.f4String2dec(String2, 4) as Val2,
faq400.f4String2dec(String3, 0) as Val3
from sampledata;

Same thing. You can overlay that character variable with packed
and integer definitions.
