Thanks Kevin,

I think you are correct and as we load the data and store the local date
and time in our database this should work.

But yes you have identified an issue that if we need to retrieve previous
data then we need to know if daylight saving was in effect at that date.

I was thinking of writing a service program procedure to retrieve the
timezone and then use an API to retrieve the start and end date details
for that timezone and then compare to the received date and then know what
adjustment to make.

Or to speed this up we could just create a table with date and applicable
offset that we can auto generate on a yearly basis.

Or perhaps someone will have an even better suggestion.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Hi Don,

I *think* that you also need to know if daylight saving was in effect as
at the original date. I could easily be wrong though as my head starts
to
hurt when I think about it.

As for being able to tell whether daylight saving is currently in
effect,
isn't that not needed, as if the time zone for your IBM I is set
correctly
you can just apply the QUTCOFFSET (currently +11:00 here in Sydney)
which
is derived from the QTIMZON system value which ere is QP1000AES3 or the
latest Australian Eastern Standard time time zone.
QP1000AES3 timezone has an offset of +10:00, but has DST defined as
starting October 1 02:00:00, ending April 1 03:00:00 with a timeshift of
60, explaining the current QUTCOFFSET of +11:00 (+10:00 add 60 minutes
as
we are between the dates for DST).

Hopefully this helps.

Regards,

Kevin Wright

We integrate with a system that stores timestamps in GMT time and when
we
retrieve data we adjust the date by the offset for the area.

So when the IBMi adjusts the time for daylight saving this is throwing
our

adjustment off by one hour.

What I am wondering is there any system value or similar that is set to
indicate the system is now in daylight saving time ?

What I am looking for is a program option to determine if daylight
saving
is currently in effect.

We are on V7R3

Thanks
