In a case like that I would put all of their output to a queue that doesn't have a writer job attached and teach them how to move them to an output queue that does have a writer job attached. And show them the Change Spool File Attribute command with a 2 on the selected file and the keyword OUTQ(XXXXXXX) on the command line so that they don't have to interact with the entire CHGSPLFA command. I do that myself because not everything I "print" do I want on paper.

Subject: How to automatically hold all spooled files for a user

Hi all,

We have a request from a user to be able to hold all their spooled files by default so that they can individually release them as needed. After a bit of thought and looking at the OVRPRTF command, it appears I should be able to do this by adding an OVRPRTF FILE(*PRTF) command to the user's particular initial program upon sign-on. I've tested this on an ad-hoc basis by just executing the OVRPRTF on the command line in my current interactive session and then printing stuff and it works. Any "gotchas" that anyone knows about with this method, or can anyone suggest a better alternative? Thanks as always for any and all input.
