Assuming the product id is the 5770BR1 that I found online, we do not have license keys for it. I'm going to track down and see if it was just the quote that had BRMS and if it made it to the actual invoice. There was some conflict with our vendor over using VTL at the time because they didn't support it in 2012/13 though they do now. We went straight to VTL after I got here without their official support.

Do you have a key for BRMS? If so getting it loaded and running is not that significant of a task.

Funny thing is BRMS was on the original invoice for the boxes here (I've seen it) but when I got here, no BRMS. So I have no experience with it and really know nothing about what it brings to the table. When the current overload of projects tapers off at the beginning of November, I'll look into it. Anything that improves backups is a plus in my book.

Once you're in a BRMS environment you forget about all those "I have to have this tape volume id for this task" rules you used to do. It's a whole new concept and it takes a little getting used to after years of being glued to volume IDs, but once you see the light it's liberating.

No we don't use BRMS. We use the two drives as separate entities for different purposes. The first drive is always our EOD tape but the second drive may be an ad hoc backup, a tape waiting for restore for research purposes, etc. Our EOD save fits on one tape so we'd never need to fall over to another tape to complete the backup.

Yes I have a DD2500. But why would use drives and not a library? Are you using BRMS?

Rob I think I have the same VTL as you EMC DD2500. My MLB is varied off with online at ipl set to *NO and I have two TAP0* drives varied on that we use.
@Mike, do you happen to have "new" TAP* devices you didn't have before? I seem to recall this same thing happening to me on V7R1 years ago where after applying a tech refresh, we got new resource names and new devices setup. I copied down the new resource names from the new devices, deleted the new devices and reassigned the resource names to the devices we normally used.
Then it all worked just fine.

Well, if it's a library with four drives you should NOT see ANY TAP* drives varied on. None. Do a WRKMLBSTS instead.
Ps: Ours is a VTL also.

I hope some one can help me
We have a VTL with 4 tape drives associated with it.
This weekend, I applied, PTFS, technology refresh etc.
Then last night I found that my backup failed.
As I researched, I now have problems with my tape drive configurations.
1 tape drive has 'resource name TAP04 not found The other 3 are varied off, but won't vary back on.
I have contacted the VTL vendor, but they haven't been able to help.
I tried to put in a call to IBM, but couldn't get a ticket created because '
I couldn't provide a 4 digit machine code of the VTL.
I have ipl'd the IOP.
Anything else I can try.
How can I get IBM to help???
Thanks
