I hear you on it would be easier - I've thought this would be useful - still, based on the following RFEs already being declined (127728, 127731, & 127732), I don't know that this will fly - we in CAAC have supported those 3, yet IBM says the cost to implement is too much for the benefit.

Oh for to have Guy Vig back! Out of retirement!!

That helps me understand your idea ... and it would work, but it's
very cumbersome (at least IMO). Proper data structures (internal &
external) would be far better and easier to maintain.
