What version of IBM i? You may need to migrate to a newer version of IBM i. One which supports current versions of Windows and their newer SMB requirements.

By "a share on the Root directory" I hope you mean a share on a subdirectory underneath the root directory and not the root directory itself. There have been a number of IBM i shops who got locked out of their system due to ransomware taking advantage of a share on the root directory and encrypting all the files underneath it. All it takes is one PC in your company getting hit by ransomware which looks for shared network drives and drilling through that. So it has no problem attacking a share on your IBM i.
