Let's assume that I would be at IBM i 7.4.

What methods are there for serving up stream files (non qsys.lib part of IFS) to Windows based servers? I know about NetServer and I've done some NFS.

Why serve from IBM i? We have plenty of space on one server on 10k large spinning disks.

This data is primarily old archived PC type data from former associates. Rarely accessed. They can deal with a small performance hit because it's on IBM i.

Currently no one has access to this lpar outside of the systems department. All other access is done from Domino.

Let's say that you have these mythical employees:

Former CEO, Former HR, Former EngineerDiv1, Former EngineerDiv2, etc.

Now Person X needs to look at some of this data, Person Y needs to look at other employees data and so on.

A windows guy is hoping that there is something which would allow him to control all the access from Windows Active Directory.

Like, perhaps he could create a directory on one Windows server which would really map to "Former CEO's" data and so on and so forth.

Maybe we wouldn't even need to add the users to the IBM i.

If this is all not possible I'll find some way for them to use a GUI method for maintaining shares on IBM i. They'll still have to do security requests for end users initially getting access to that lpar.
