Oh, and to answer your questions on 5 ready to go apps, there are many frameworks that can be used but the apps would most likely be custom written things.

One of the examples I wrote crawls /QopenSys to check disk space in about 3 min. Damn that's fast.

I wrote an integration between IBMi and webdocs windows by using existing C# code.

Write a .Net JSON data service using a framework called NancyFx. I can run the same app compiled from VS from a Windows server or IFS.

Since you mention ROI for some reason, what sort of ROI are you looking for ?

Thanks, Richard.  Good to know there are frameworks.  NancyFx is part of the way towards what I'm asking about.  It's a pretty cool web framework, but there are lots of those out there.

The reason I ask about ROI is because I only have limited bandwidth.  The majority of my life is non-work-related, and the majority of my work is KBR (keep the business running).  The sliver that's left is dedicated towards new things that will help my team of developers.  For example, *INZSR for a service program is huge, so I've spent a lot of time on that.  I'd devote the same time to Mono if I could determine how it would help my business.

As noted before, most businesses are pretty similar (that's why we have packaged software), so I'm just looking for the ways that Mono would help a shop without Windows programmers running RPG-based ERP for manufacturing and distribution.

Anyway, as noted with John, I really didn't want this to be in any way argumentative.  I'm not an evangelist anymore, I'm not trying to prove anything to anyone.  As you noted so pithily, EGL cured me of that.  I just wanted to know how Mono could help my shop, and maybe some others who, like me, don't have as much time to do "cool stuff" just for the fun of it.
