were there any problems with the virtualized setup other than performance.
so could this lead to instabilities on the as400 side.
we can only do it virtualized.

the last thing i want to rist is instability on the as400.

Hi Franz,

we do run this as follows:
- no VMWare. We tried once with some performance degradation
- locally installed Debian Linux + quadstor Software
- Qlogic 22xx and 24xx - all supported, just grab one which fits your
server (PCI-X or PCIe)
- fast local disk with software RAID and also external Infortrend RAID
systems
- using quadstor with NPIV works great so you can use one VTL serving as
multiple VTL for multiple LPARS.

environment and which components he is using.

of special interest for me are

- can this setup be run on top of vmware-esx where the vtl is a virtual
machine?
- can the firbre-channel adapter that is used for the vm be shared
